Professor Bruno and Twarog on recent hospital union activity

Hospitals are seeing an uptick in workers pushing to form new union locals, following a seeming lull in labor activity since the several high-profile strikes by nurses and other unionized workers during and immediately after the COVID-19 pandemic. Illinois labor and employment professors Emily Twarog and Robert Bruno responded to the uptick in labor activity. “When there is more organizing, there are more efforts to defeat organizing,” Twarog says. “Whenever there’s an increase in organizing, it comes out of an increase in uncertainty,” Bruno says.
